Call for community: How to help Haiti
On Tuesday, January 12, Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, centered 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince. The quake has caused widespread damage and casualties and structural damage. At this point, authorities are unsure as to just how much damage the quake has caused but know that its impact was vast and intense.
In times like these, it is important for communities to band together to provide support.
On Answers, we form a community of collective knowledge- but in the real world, together, we create a collective bound together by one thing: humanity, and the ability to endure. And in times like these, it’s important to remember that, and to help others persevere. As Filipinos, we’ve recently gone through a similar experience and we were blessed to receive an overflowing support from the international community. Now it’s our turn to help.
According to the Associated Press, “it was clear from a tour of the capital that tens of thousands of people had lost their homes and that many had perished. Many buildings in Haiti are flimsy and dangerous even under normal conditions.”

From the bottom of Filipino’s heart, our deepest sympathy to the victims of earthquake in HAITI… we cannot help you in financial things, but our PRAYERS will do a lot. please alway pray to GOD. – from The Philippines
I like to donate thru paypal. How?
Is there any way we can donate through text? Or at least is there any options for those who does not have credit cards?
Here in Taiwan they have a Tzu Chi Foundation… we can help the victims of Haiti earthquake through this foundation…
Please do something… I believe in the power of prayers but prayers without work is nothing… do not underestimate the power of charity…
Thank you!
As part of the Christian Community, we sincerely pray that God’s peace, mercy and compassion and provision will be with all Haitian’s. We will continually pray for God’s working through people who are able and already there to extend their love that His strength and wisdom will be with them.
Is there a way where we can send help by forwarding text messages? In Red Cross, it says we can send help by texting “haiti” to 90999, this message will send $10 to Red cross. This is only in the U.S. right? Is there a similar thing like this in the Philippines?
It really saddened me to see in the news that thousands of people were died from the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hits Haiti last January 12.
I would like to extend my sympathy to all the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. Though I may not be able to help those victims financially, I hope my prayers and the article I made in my blog about Haiti earthquake and ways on how to donate relief will suffice.
My condolences to the family of all who died
i do want to help but i don’t have money since i’m still studying..all i can give is my sympathy and prayers to the victims. may you start your new life with positive views..GOD is always here…knock and you shall be opened…GOD loves you…GODBLESS!
Lets start giving… it may be small amount but if each one of us can give happily, together, it will sum up big… we can think just a day we have (eg. 1 box of cigarette,1 soda drink,1 fastfood meal) that we can sacrifice to share for these victims. We can send it by batch with friends or relatives perhaps…
maybe we could all go to US and Haiti Embassies here in the Philippines where we could give our donation. There are a number of Red Cross offices here as well, there’s one in Intramuros and there’s another in Shaw Blvd,
