Updates On Our Updates

Tags: , ,

We have been listening to your feedback and have been working hard this summer to keep improving Answers.  Check out these new stuff in Answers that I’m sure will make asking and answering a better experience for all of us.  One of the updates that was just implemented and you may have noticed already is that we changed the Ask and Answer pages to incorporate tips to help you get the most out of Answers.

Now, when you ask or answer a question, you will see a yellow speech bubble giving you some tips:

If there is any spelling mistake (I’m sure this happens to all of us, we all type too fast sometimes), you will be warned and, with help of the Spell Checker, be able to correct all mistakes.

Ignore, Change and click Done when ready.  This will make your questions and answers look better (and by that I mean readable, hehehe).

We will also warn you if your caps lock is on… you know, in the Internet world, writing in capitals is often perceived as shouting and regarded as bad netiquette.

For the experts amongst you who feel as though you don’t need any help, don’t worry because if you think the tips will just annoy you they can easily be closed.  You only need to click on the “x” on the top right of the speech bubble and they are gone.

These are just a few of the tips we have for you.  So what do you think?  Check it out now and go see for yourself!  Don’t forget to leave a comment and share to me and everyone else your thoughts on these updates.

  1. I was answering in Words and Wordplay this morning and my YA shifted back to the old format. Now it’s back to the new one. Maybe it was just a glitch.

    Kudos on your updating YA.

And yeah, just a suggestion. The Spell Checker is kind of off still, as the old one was. It can’t recognize some valid words (I checked, the word is in dictionary.com) and also noun possessives (i.e. YA’s). Maybe you can improve on this?

    Cheerios!

  2. Thanks for the feedback Lai, we need more of it so we can ensure our updates are indeed offering the community the tools it needs to make your knowledge-sharing activities in Answers a more enjoyable and easier experience. :)

  3. I like the new format better. Concise and less time needed to preview your answer. Anyway, what I would like to ask has no bearing to your new format. It concerns reports of violations which do not actually constitute violations. Can’t Yahoo do a thorough check on reports before effecting a decision and then, sometimes, reversing their decisions after an appeal has been approved?

Thank you and Congratulations to the great change to make Yahoo Answers a better forum for everyone.

  4. I think for the most part the spell check and caps lock check are helpful. In those ways the new format is nicely improved. However, in the old format, when you searched the web to verify a website address, etc for an aswer you could just close the open page, now you have to hit the back tab. This causes the information previously entered to be deleted. I usually add my website addressesd towards the end of my answers, so this has become an irritant. You might consider changing back to the old search method.
